Getting the obvious out of the way - we are loving the first week of our peregrinations. And yet, oddly enough, being away makes us realise how much we value our life back at home and how much we will enjoy coming back to it and to all of you.
Ok, sappy notes aside, few notes from our first week. On the first day, Marta said that Namibia is “just like Australia” so well done us for going to exotic places. In many ways though, it is - stark beauty of inhospitable surroundings and no people (second least densely inhabited country in the world) which is made up in kind by sand and stars. And yes, according to my googling there are indeed more stars in the sky than sand on earth.
First few days brought with it rather rapid education in car maintenance. I had to learn how to inflate and change tyres in our pickup camper car and Marta had to learn how to not make fun of me not being able to do it. Other than that, the highlight of the trip has been sleeping in our roof tent and the achievement of the trip has been Marta not injuring herself every night at 4am when she climbs down the roof in search of a camp toilet.
As long as useless knowledge is concerned, we have learned that: dunes can shake, there are four different clicks in some local languages, Germans only ruled the country for 35 years but managed to leave behind good beer, sausages and hordes of German tourists, Fidel Castro is a national hero and lizards can absorb oxygen from sand.
